Aim & Scope

Aim:

The aim of the Journal of African Development is to stimulate scholarly debate, influence policy decisions, and contribute to sustainable socio-economic growth in Africa. JAD encourages submissions that explore transformative solutions to issues such as poverty, education, healthcare, economic reform, digital development, gender equity, climate resilience, and governance.

Scope:

The journal welcomes interdisciplinary research with a focus on but not limited to the following areas:

  • Economic development and planning
  • Political economy and public policy
  • Agriculture, food security, and rural development
  • Infrastructure, energy, and urbanization
  • Education, skills, and human capital development
  • Health systems, public health, and social protection
  • Innovation, technology, and digital transformation
  • Climate change, environment, and sustainability
  • Gender, youth, and minority empowerment
  • Regional integration, trade, and investment
  • Institutional governance and democratic transitions

JAD accepts empirical studies, theoretical frameworks, case analyses, policy reviews, and development perspectives with clear relevance to African development issues. Priority is given to original contributions that offer practical recommendations and foster South-South and North-South knowledge exchange.
